Girls swim: Milton crashes Cougar Relays
Milton captured the title at the Cougar Relays at Janesville Craig on Saturday.
The Red Hawks won five of 12 events and scored 274 points, beating Craig by 14.
Freshman Olivia DeRemer swam on four of the winning teams.
“Olivia is a freshman, so that's a really good day for her,” Milton coach Jenny Quade said. “Relay meets are always really fun. They're high energy. Craig was great competition. They have some good swimmers, and it adds to the excitement.”
The Cougars also won five events, with Sierra Rhodes and Kendall Cawkins swimming on four of the victorious teams. The two of them, along with Gretchen Quinn, Courtney May, Tristi March, Emma Schmaling, Maggie Gorman and Alexis Roach, set a new meet record by swimming the 400 rocket relay in 3:32.45.
Janesville Parker finished sixth as a team and won the 200-yard freestyle class race.
The Red Hawks hope Saturday's victory gives them momentum heading into the stretch run of their season.
“We have one more dual, and then we're off to conference, sectionals and state,” Quade said. “It's going to be exciting. We're not the same team that we've been the last few years, so it'll be interesting to see where we're at.”
