David E. Spike, Sr., 78, of Edgerton, passed away at his home early on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, surrounded by his family. David was born on Oct. 13, 1934, in Edgerton, WI, to the late Laurice and Ann (Vedvig) Spike. He would graduate from Edgerton High School in 1953; and after a year of college, he joined the Navy. In 1968, David bought his first A&W Restaurant in Monroe. He and his family ran that until 1970, when he bought the A&W in Edgerton, and would run that for about 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Lions Club and Central Lutheran Church in Edgerton, loved to hunt, fish, and golf, and was an avid Badger and Packers fan. David was known to always be tinkering with something around the house or in the garage and loved working on his cars. He was known for his quick wit and a great sense of humor.

David is survived by his longtime partner, Blou Shumaker of Edgerton, WI; four sons: David (Cheryl) Spike of Janesville, WI, Don (Beverly) Spike of Mineola, TX, Dick (Mirella) Spike of Busseyville, WI, Dan Spike of Janesville; and their mother, Dorothy Spike of Edgerton: 18 grandchildren: six great-grandchildren; his beloved lab, Cooper; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Laurice "Duny" Spike.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at CENTRAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Edgerton, with Pastor Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Albion Prairie Cemtery with military rites being provided by the Edgerton Honor Squad. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013, at the ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES, EDGERTON, from 4 until 7 p.m. and from 10 a.m. until the start of the service on Monday at the CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in David's name to Central Lutheran Church or Agrace Hospice.
