Interstate expansion meeting scheduled
Expansion plans for Interstate 90/39 south of Janesville will be the topic of a public information meeting later this month.
State Department of Transportation officials will be on hand to answer questions and make a brief presentation on the project, which runs from County O south of Janesville to the Illinois state line.
The segment, also referred to as the southern segment, is one of three in a 45-mile expansion that runs from the state line to the Beltline in Madison. Construction on the southern, central and northern segments is expected to begin in 2015 and be complete by 2021.
The southern segment extends about 12 miles. The Interstate will be reconstructed and expanded to six lanes from the Illinois state line north to Highway 11/Avalon Road. It will expand to eight lanes—four in each direction—from Highway 11 to County O.
Interchanges will be reconstructed at Interstate 43 and Highway 81 in Beloit, at County S and at Highway 11.
The meeting on Thursday, Oct. 17 also will offer information on:
--The replacement of aging overpasses at Stateline, Hart, Creek and Woodman roads. Included with the Hart Road overpass will be the reconstruction of Hart Road from County S to County X.
--Right-of-way acquisition for properties adjacent to the Interstate, interchanges and local road overpasses.
Future meetings will focus solely on interchange alternatives for the I-90/39 interchange with I-43.
