The Janesville Craig volleyball team led Middleton late in two of three sets on Thursday, but couldn’t slam the door.

The Cardinals, who are in second place in the Big Eight, rallied both times to sweep the Cougars in a conference match. They won 25-21, 25-14, 27-25.

Middleton improved to 7-1 in the Big Eight. Craig is 4-4.

“We were ahead 21-20 in the first game and couldn’t score again,” Craig coach Blake Budrow said. “We were ahead 24-23 in the third game and couldn’t finish it off.

“But I’m very happy with how we played. McKenzie Bertagnoli and Aly Raymond did a gret job of hitting for us tonight.”

Bertagnoli led the Cougars with 13 kills, and Raymond added eight. Melanie Tinker had 15 assists.

Craig hosts a five-team tournament on Saturday before closing out the regular season by hosting Janesville Parker on Tuesday.
