JANESVILLE--The Janesville Jets desperately needed a high-energy moment. A goal or a big hit might have done wonders.

It took them until the third period to make such a play on Saturday night, and by then it was too late.

Coulee Region jumped out to a three-goal lead through two periods and capped off a weekend sweep of Janesville with a 4-1 NAHL victory at the Janesville Ice Arena.

“It was just not enough, and too late,” Jets coach Joe Dibble said. “And right when we started to get some momentum, one of our guys took a penalty, undisciplined, and it gives the momentum right back to them.”

It was all Chill (5-1-0) in the first two periods. James McGing gave them the lead with less than seven minutes remaining in the first, then Richard Zahnal capped off a two-on-one breakaway with Mac Jansen to make it 2-0 after one.

Justin Holliday’s wrister from the right circle less than five minutes into the second sapped a little more energy.

The Jets (1-4-1) were 0-for-6 on the power play in the first two periods and 0-for-8 overall.

“Our power play, coming into this weekend, was second-best in the league at 38 percent,” said Dibble, who was without three of his top players. Five players from the two teams missed Saturday’s action after receiving game misconduct penalties in Friday night’s game. “Right now we’re just struggling to find the net.”

Adam Winborg pumped some life into the Jets’ bench early in the third period. Michael Louria found him in front of the Chill net and Winborg scored for the third time this year.

Chill goalie Adam Carlson was plenty good beyond that. He stopped 29 of 30 shots to earn the victory. Logan Halladay made 27 saves for Janesville.

Coulee Region added an empty-net goal late in the game to put it away.

“We had a few guys sitting out tonight that, luckily, after this weekend everybody is back and healthy,” Dibble said. “The real team will be on the ice next week.”

The Jets host the Michigan Warriors next Friday and Saturday night for Paint the Rink Pink weekend.
