JANESVILLE—A Janesville man is in custody at the Rock County Jail after being arrested on felony drunken-driving charges early Thursday morning in downtown Janesville.

Arthur L. Thomas, 58, of 412 S. Academy St., Apt. A, was arrested at 1:19 a.m. Thursday on charges of fifth-offense drunken driving and operating after revocation, according to a Janesville Police Department news release.

The arrest was made after an officer patrolling downtown noticed a vehicle with expired plates deviating from the lane of traffic. When Officer Todd Radloff stopped the driver and noticed an odor of intoxicants on his breath and slurred speech, the driver admitted to consuming prescription narcotics before driving, according to the news release.

Thomas failed field sobriety tests and also admitted to drinking before driving, according to the release.
