EVANSVILLE--Meggie Acker stole the show at the Big Eight Conference girls golf meet on Thursday.

Middleton’s No. 5 golfer was hoping to help the Cardinals to a conference title. That she did, and then some.

Acker carded a 2-over 74 to match defending Division 1 state champion Jessica Reinicke of Verona. On the first playoff hole, No. 10, Acker drained a 15-foot birdie putt to win the individual medalist title.

Acker and Reinicke were impressive on the tough setup at Evansville Golf Club, and they topped the rest of the field by six strokes.

Middleton won the team title with 323, topping Verona by three strokes. Madison Memorial was third at 348.

Janesville Parker finished fourth with 355, while Craig was seventh with 435.

“We were hoping to maybe jump up into third, but it is what it is,” said Vikings senior Taylor Wyss, an individual state-qualifier a year ago who shot 85 on Thursday. “I started a little rough, then got better, and then ended kind of bad again.”

Senior Micayla Richards paced Parker with an 84 to finish tied for sixth among the individual medalists.

“We did OK,” Richards said. “I left some shots out there, but I’m happy with the way it ended. I finished strong.”

Sarah Holford led Craig with a 99.

The Janesville teams, along with Beloit Memorial, Lake Geneva Badger, Burlington, Elkhorn, Fort Atkinson and Milton, will continue postseason play at WIAA regional competition at Krueger-Haskell in Beloit on Wednesday.
