Cougars, Vikings suffer Big Eight soccer defeats

Garrett Grunk’s hat trick lifted Verona High’s boys soccer team to an 8-1 Big Eight Conference victory over Janesville Parker on Thursday night.

Verona opened up a 3-0 lead just 15 minutes into the game as Grunk scored twice.

Pedro Arvizo scored Parker’s goal in the 69th minute.

Parker plays at a two-day tournament at Lake Geneva Badger beginning with one game tonight.

Madison Memorial 6, Janesville Craig 0—The Spartans kept their unbeaten streak in the Big Eight rolling with a road shutout on Thursday night.

Madison Memorial is now 7-0, while Craig is 0-7. The Cougars got three saves from keeper David Diaz.

“The scoreline doesn’t do the effort justice for us,” Cougars coach Mike Hook said. “We had probably the best defensive effort in a while. The guys were very organized, playing against a very skilled team. Full credit to Madison Memorial, but I was extremely pleased with the way we played.”

Craig travels to face Middleton on Tuesday.
