JANESVILLE—Local lawmakers say economic development is a priority, and they want to hear from business owners on the best way to accomplish it.

State Reps. Andy Jorgensen, D-Fort Atkinson; Deb Kolste, D-Janesville, and Janis Ringhand, D-Evansville, will host an economic development forum Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Rock County Job Center in Janesville.

State Sens. Tim Cullen, D-Janesville, and Neal Kedzie, R-Elkhorn, and Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton, also have been invited.

“Legislators don't have all the answers,” Jorgensen said. “It's business owners who know best what rules and regulations help grow their industry and what ones hurt.

“We're asking for input from the business community because we want to partner with them to grow their businesses and create more job opportunities for our friends and neighbors in south central Wisconsin.”

Kolste said helping small businesses is one of her legislative priorities.

“I hope that the forum produces ideas from business that can result in laws that actually spur business growth and retention,” she said. “As a former small business owner, I know that small businesses are the backbone of our communities. I also know that strong collaboration between the private and public sector is critical to rebuilding our economy.”
