Vikings, Cougars tumble in Big Eight soccer
The restart of a suspended Big Eight boys soccer match at Madison La Follette started out promising for Janesville Craig, but it ended poorly Tuesday.
Hozai Ceballos tied the game at 2-all early in the second half, but the Lancers scored the final two goals just three minutes apart to down the Cougars, 4-2.
The game originally began Thursday but was interrupted by lightning. Ceballos scored the Cougars’ first goal, and then tied it up at 2-all at the 41-minute mark Tuesday.
The score remained tied until the Lancers scored at the 58- and 60-minute marks.
Austyn Meier made eight saves for Craig.
Craig coach Mike Hook was encouraged that the Cougars scored the first goal Tuesday. The team has been plagued by slow starts, including Thursday when the Lancers scored just a minute into the match.
“We got off to a great start at the restart,” Hook said. “I feel like we’re fixing things. We’re stopping some of the mistakes.”
But that didn’t prevent Craig from falling to 0-6 in the Big Eight and 5-7 overall. Undefeated Madison Memorial looms Thursday, with another power, Middleton, up after the Spartans for the Cougars.
“The important thing now is not to get too frustrated,” Hook said. “Those are two nice teams coming up. This is not a time to get frustrated.”
