ELKHORN--Aurora Health Care has broken ground on a new clinic at 201 E. Morrissey Drive, Elkhorn.

The 30,000-square-foot building will be a clinic and home to a variety of specialized services.

“It's a replacement site,” said Myrle Croasdale spokeswoman for Aurora Health Care. “We're moving to a larger space to better serve the needs of our patients.

The $12 million building will “reflect the new reality of health care—that much of the care will be delivered by an integrated team outside of a hospital setting, with a focus on patient wellness and prevention,” Croasdale said.

Along with internal medicine, the new facility will be home to specialized services such as audiology, obstetrics, gynecology, otolaryngology, urology and a pharmacy.

Aurora Health Care has three sites in Elkhorn: Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, W3985 County Rd NN and two primary care centers on 20 N. Church St. and 205 E. Commerce Court.

The new clinic will replace the two primary care centers.

The building is expected to be open by the end of 2013.
