TOWN OF ROCK—There's no rush, but registering to vote now could make for smoother voting next year.

A voter registration drive will be held Tuesday at Blackhawk Technical College's central campus.

The event is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the campus, 6004 S. County G between Beloit and Janesville.

The League of Women Voters chapters of Beloit and Janesville and Blackhawk Technical College Student Government are holding the event on National Voter Registration Day.

The event is part of a 50-state effort to register voters, according to a news release.

No Wisconsin elections are set for this November, but registering now will get voters ready for next year's elections, said Gayle Hotchkiss of the Beloit League of Women Voters.

Once registered, voters don't need to renew their registrations if they vote at least once a year and don't move or change their names, said Rock County Clerk Lori Stottler.

People who need to update their voter registrations can take care of that at Tuesday's event, too, Hotchkiss said.

While the event is at Blackhawk Tech, anyone can attend, Hotchkiss said.

National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan event that was started in 2012 for the presidential election, according to the news release. The local 2012 event also was held at the college.

The next election is the spring primary for nonpartisan offices such as city councils and school boards, on Feb. 18. The spring election is on April 1.

Voters will choose a governor and congressional and state legislative representatives, among others, on Nov. 4, 2014.
