Parker wins a penalty-filled contest
MADISON—Janesville Parker's football team got back to the basics Friday night.
The Vikings ran the ball and controlled the clock en route to a 33-21 Big Eight Conference win over Madison East.
Parker, behind 107 yards from Dai-Von Vance-Jenkins, finished with 335 yards rushing in improving to 2-3 on the season.
Leading 19-15 at half, Parker pulled away in the second half thanks to a big push from the offensive line.
“Those five or six guys up front really did a nice job tonight,” Parker coach Eric Skrzypchak said of his offensive line. “They got a great push off the line and opened up some big holes.
“We've got some things to clear up on both sides of the ball, but we also did some good things tonight and got a win despite not playing our best.”
Parker won its second straight despite 17 penalties. Vance-Jenkins scored on runs of 3, 26 and 13, while Jovanni Sanchez also scored twice.
“We were hoping to mix in the pass a little bit, but the way we were running the ball, we didn't need to,” Skrzypchak said. “And it wasn't just Dai-Von. We really spread the wealth around. Jovanni had some nice runs, and Mitch (Treinen) was effective as well.
“Defensively, we played pretty well the second half. Other than the penalties, it was a good effort.”
Parker hosts Madison West (1-4) next Friday at Monterey.
“That's a big game for us,” Skrzypchak. “We've got some momentum going now and a chance to get back to .500 for the season. That would be huge.”
