JANESVILLE—Blackhawk Community Credit Union is telling members to disregard a text messaging scam that asks for account information.

People have gotten text messages from a number in the 608 area code saying their Blackhawk accounts have been frozen and asking for personal information to reactivate them, according to an alert on the credit union's website.

The messages are a scam.

“Please remember that Blackhawk will never ask you for this kind of information via text, over the phone or online,” a company post read.

The credit union asks anyone who did share account or card information to call (608) 755-6065. For those who received the messages but did not respond, the company says their accounts are safe.
