JANESVILLE—The Wisconsin State Patrol sent out a warning Thursday to ignore phone calls in which a man claiming to be a sergeant in the law enforcement agency asks for money.

Two people have reported getting phone calls from a man calling himself “Sergeant Walker,” telling targets their child or grandchild was in a car crash and asking for hundreds of dollars to pay for repairs, according to a news release.

The State Patrol would never call anyone to request money, an official said in the release.

Authorities asked anyone who receives the scam phone calls to contact the State Patrol's Fond du Lac post at (920) 929-3700.
