BLAINE, Minn.--The Janesville Jets scored three first-period goals on Thursday, but it was not enough for them to get their first win of the NAHL season.

Kenai River scored a pair of goals in the second period, then won a shootout to top Janesville, 4-3, at the NAHL Showcase.

The Jets needed just six shots on goal to take a 3-1 lead in the first period. They converted twice on power plays.

Adam Winborg put them up 1-0 with a goal on the man-advantage eight minutes into the game, then Jordan Himley made it 2-0 with less than five minutes left.

Michael Louria, who assisted on Janesville’s first goal of the night, made it 3-1 in the period’s final minutes.

But Kenai River came storming back early in the second period. It got goals from Jack Gessert and Alec Butcher in the first half of the period, and the teams played to a scoreless draw over the second half of the game.

The Brown Bears got shootout goals in each of their first two attempts to win the shootout.

Janesville plays Bismarck at 1:45 p.m. today in the Showcase.
