EDGERTON—Despite cold, wet weather earlier this spring, growers of the 400 acres of chewing and cigarette tobacco in Rock and Dane counties reported yields of 2,500 to 2,700 pounds of tobacco per acre, which is on par with an average growing season.

John and Doug Sayre of Edgerton say they like farming tobacco, though they see the need for their crop—and number of fellow farmers—diminishing. See more in this video from Gazette photographer Nick Agro.
