Craig boys soccer team wins its invitational tournament
JANESVILLE—The seniors on the Janesville Craig boys soccer team captured their home tournament for the first time in their careers on Saturday.
The Cougars didn’t give up a goal in two matches, shutting out Edgerton 5-0 and then beating West Allis Central 7-0 in the finals.
“I think it was an all-around really good result for the team,” Cougars coach Mike Hook said. “It’s been a long time since we’ve won our invitational tournament. It was a great day for the program.”
Ian Reinicke scored twice in the second half and Austyn Meier made one save in the Cougars’ shutout of the Crimson Tide.
“I was a little bit frustrated at our eagerness to go forward in the Edgerton game,” Hook said. “We kind of lost the way we control the game. Once we came out against Central, we played how we know how to play.”
Hozai Ceballos and Ian O’Donnell each scored twice in the final and David Diaz made four saves to keep the clean sheet.
Craig is now 4-2 on the season and takes an 0-2 Big Eight record into conference play this week. The Cougars play at Verona on Tuesday.
