BELOIT--The Beloit Snappers made quick work of the Clinton LumberKings in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs.

The Snappers jumped out to a five-run lead through five innings on Thursday night and earned a two-game series sweep with a 6-2 victory at Pohlman Field.

Dylan Covey threw six strong innings for Beloit, allowing two runs—one earned—on three hits. He struck out three hitters to earn the win.

With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Snappers broke out with a pair of runs thanks in part to a Clinton fielding blunder.

Renato Nunez singled to lead off the inning and Brett Vertigan followed with a walk. Nick Rickles laid down a sacrifice bunt and Clinton pitcher Dylan Unsworth threw the ball away, allowing Nunez and Vertigan to score.

The Snappers tacked on three more runs in the fifth thanks to a two-run double off the bat of John Wooten, who scored on another LumberKings error.

Beloit got three shutout innings from relievers Sam Bragg, Chris Lamb and Tyler Vail.

The Snappers move on to face the Quad Cities River Bandits in a three-game Western Division Final series beginning Saturday on the road. Beloit is scheduled to host the second and third—if necessary—games on Sunday and Monday at 6:30 p.m. All remaining home playoff games will feature $1 sodas and 12-ounce beers.
