Craig volleyball wins; Parker loses

Janesville Craig’s volleyball team got the Big Eight Conference season off to a strong start.

The Cougars got a combined 14 aces from Hayley Updike, Gabby Loveland and Haleigh Salemi in cruising to a 3-0 win over Madison East. Craig won by scores of 25-15, 25-22, 25-20.

Craig, which was 6-3 in the conference a year ago, got 10 kills each from Mackenzie Bertagnoli and Courtney Kell.

“We came up here and took care of business,” Craig coach Blake Budrow said. “It started with our serving. That was key tonight.

“A pretty good team effort all around.”

Craig plays at the Elkhorn Invitational on Saturday.

n La Follette 3, Parker 0—The host Vikings hung tough in game one but came up two points short, and the Lancers went on to win the Big Eight opener.

Parker got 32 assists and two aces from setter Claire Fox.

“The girls played really great in game one and had the lead in game two,” Parker first-year coach Kathy Bullis said.

“The most important thing is that we’re improving each time out. It’s just going to take a little time because the girls are learning a new system.”

Parker plays at Madison Memorial next Tuesday.
