Police: False cop-impersonator report leads to obstructing charge
JANESVILLE--A Janesville woman has been arrested after filing what investigators say was a false report about a police impersonator.
Miranda M. Rivers, 23, 154 S. Franklin St., Janesville, was arrested Monday on a charge of obstructing, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department.
Rivers is accused of telling police that at 11:30 p.m. Thursday she was pulled over by a vehicle she thought was a squad car. The incident took place in the area of Main and Racine streets, Janesville, according to the news release.
Rivers told police she was ordered out of her car at gunpoint and that her car was searched. She reported nothing was taken except some prescription medication from her trunk, according to the news release.
Rivers also posted her story on a “Mom-to-Mom” Facebook group, warning others about the incident.
Janesville police reviewed video footage from a nearby gas station and determined the incident could not have occurred as reported, according to the news release.
