Milton Raptors lose first game of RRL championship series
MILTON--Joe Shere and T.J. Klawitter combined to pitch 11 scoreless innings for the Milton Raptors in Game 1 of the Rock River League Grand Championship Series against Hartford, but failure to move baserunners and drive them in led to a 3-0 loss in 12 innings on Sunday at Schilberg Park.
The Raptors’ best chance to score came and went in the second inning after Josh Shere rapped a double to lead off the frame, but he wound up stranded.
Joe Shere pitched nine innings and struck out 10 Hartford batters.
“Joe pitched well enough to win. He made big pitches when he needed to, but we couldn’t get him a run,” Milton coach Doug Welch said.
Klawitter came on and pitched two innings of scoreless relief before the top of the 12th inning. A bloop hit by Dan Hall dropped in over Milton’s second baseman to drive in Hartford’s first run, and a seeing-eye single by Kevin Dissitt brought around two more to make it 3-0.
Sean McCann, who delivered a one-hit shutout Saturday to beat Neosho and clinch Milton’s spot in the championship series, will pitch Game 2 next Saturday in Hartford at 1:30 p.m. A decisive Game 3 would be played Sunday back in Milton.
