Green Bay Notre Dame won the Gold Pool title in the Cougar-Viking Classic girls volleyball tournament by going 5-0 on Saturday.

Big Foot High was second in the eight-team top pool, while Janesville Craig was sixth.

Craig coach Blake Budrow said the entire top pool was evenly matched.

“It was not just our matches,” Budrow said. “It was the whole Gold Pool. There were a lot of close games and a lot of three-game sets.”

Two of the five matches Craig played Saturday went to three games.

“It was a lot of good competition,” Budrow said. “That's good for us.

“Gabby Loveland led us in serving again today,” Budrow said. “She had 13 aces. Ali Calkins led us in kills for the second day in a row. She did a nice job in the middle.”

The Cougars open Big Eight play Tuesday when they travel to Madison East.
