JANESVILLE—Two Janesville men are in custody at the Rock County Jail after what police say was a drug deal gone bad early Thursday morning.

Taiwan Edwards, 18, of 1419 Linden Ave., Janesville, was arrested on charges of party to robbery and Devonte Poe, 20, of 403 Rockport Road, Janesville, was arrested on charges of party to robbery and on an unrelated warrant through the Rock County Sheriff's Office, Sgt. Aaron Ellis said.

The robbery happened at 12:41 a.m. Thursday at McKinley and Academy Streets, where the two 17-year-old Janesville boys met with three Janesville men to buy narcotics. One of the three men grabbed a wallet containing $17 from one of boys, who then called police, he said.

One of the teens gave police the names of two of the robbers because he was a former classmate, Ellis said.

Police found the empty stolen wallet minutes after the robbery one block south of the crime scene. Just before 1 a.m., Ellis spotted three men matching the descriptions of the robbers inside the convenience store at Five Points. When they noticed the squad car, they ran from the store, but police caught Edwards and Poe and arrested them.

The third robber has not been identified, Ellis said.
