JANESVILLE—A Delavan man is in custody after an early Monday morning attempted burglary at Texas Roadhouse, 3201 Deerfield Drive.

A Janesville police officer responded at 1:46 a.m. Monday to an alarm at the restaurant and shortly thereafter was joined by a Rock County Sheriff's Office deputy. As they walked around the outside of the building, they heard a pounding noise coming from the roof before a man jumped off it and began running toward Home Depot, where he was apprehended, in the parking lot, said Sgt. Dean Sukus of the Janesville Police Department.

Brett Wiedmer, 38, Delavan, was arrested on charges of attempted burglary, possession of burglary tools and felony criminal damage to property, Sukus said.

Sledgehammers, drills, crowbars and other tools were found at the scene where the roof was damaged, he said.

“It appears he cut a hole in the roof attempting entry,” Sukus said.
