JANESVILLE—With temperatures forecast in the mid-90s for Tuesday, authorities announced that people can seek relief from the heat at cooling centers around Rock County.

Tuesday's forecast calls for a high near 95, according to the National Weather Service.

That could be a serious problem for people who work outside or live without air conditioning, the Rock County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Monday. Those in need can visit these cooling centers, authorities said:

-- Janesville: Hedberg Public Library, senior center, Janesville Mall, Salvation Army and St. Mary's Hospital.

-- Milton: Milton Public Library, city council and The Gathering Place.

-- Edgerton: Edgerton Public Library.

-- Clinton: Clinton Senior Center and Clinton Public Library.

-- Evansville: Creekside Place Community Center and Eager Free Public Library.

-- Beloit: Beloit Public Library, Salvation Army and, for seniors only, the Beloit Senior Center.

Authorities also recommended residents check on older neighbors, limit physical activity and not leave people or pets in parked cars during the heat. After Tuesday, temperatures are forecast to stay in the mid- to upper-80s through the end of the week.
