WAUNAKEE—The Janesville Parker girls golf team finished eighth at the Waunakee Invite at The Meadows at Sixmile Creek on Monday.

The Vikings, playing without their usual No. 3 player, shot 363 to finish 38 strokes behind Arrowhead and Middleton. Janesville Craig had just four players and shot 437.

“All in all, it wasn't a bad day; I knew our score would be a little higher,” Parker coach Mary Ross said. “There was great competition here. The important thing now is you're learning and growing week by week. It sometimes always isn't just about the score.”

Taylor Wyss and Micayla Richards each fired a round of 83 to lead the Vikings. Oregon's Jessica Reinecke was medalist at even-par 72.

With a hole in Parker's lineup, the Vikings called on freshman Keara Richards. She shot a 103, the final score that counted for the team with the fifth score being dropped.

“She's a very talented young player,” Ross said. “She's improved her play each week and is going to be an up-and-coming young player for us.”

Sarah Holford paced the Cougars with a 102.

Parker is back in action at the Portage Invite on Wednesday. Craig hosts Madison West and Madison Memorial in Big Eight Conference action at Riverside Golf Course.
