August 23, 2013

On Aug. 26, 1920, an important and revolutionary amendment was ratified. The 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, was the result of decades of relentless struggle by American women.

Every year we celebrate Women’s Equality Day, which honors the passage of this amendment, but we are not equal yet. While we have made progress in the past 93 years, when it comes to access to quality health care, pay equity, workplace rights, representation as elected officials, corporate leadership roles, women--especially women of color and women in the LGBT community--are still fighting for full equality and to have our voices heard. This year for Women’s Equality Day, we come together to honor our shared struggles and celebrate the strength that comes from uniting our voices.

We invite you to join the Wisconsin Women’s Network on Monday, Aug. 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Sunprint Café on the Capitol Square in Madison to commemorate Women’s Equality Day and to unite our many voices into one network working for full equality.

EVE GALANTER

Chairwoman
