JANESVILLE—Rock County prosecutors have charged a Janesville man with armed robbery and child neglect after police said he held up a Milton Avenue bar with pepper spray and stole more than $7,000 last weekend.

Justin A. Pedrick, 30, of 1315 Laramie Lane No. 6, was a regular and heavy gambler at Sneakers Sports Bar & Grill, according to a criminal complaint filed Friday.

He walked into the bar on the morning of Aug. 18, Janesville police said, threatened an employee with pepper spray and made off with $7,220.

The employee told police she thought Pedrick might have been involved in the robbery and gave a description that matched his, authorities said.

Pedrick had won $3,000 from the bar's gaming machines a week before the robbery, the employee said, and “walked and moved like the person who had just robbed the bar,” according to the complaint.

Police searched Pedrick's apartment Tuesday and arrested him on a charge of armed robbery. He is now being held at the Rock County Jail pending a $10,000 cash bond.

Pedrick told police he gambles at Sneakers but denied robbing the bar, according to the complaint.

Conditions in the apartment were deplorable, police said, and Pedrick's two small children were left unsupervised and wearing soiled diapers.

An employee from city code enforcement told authorities the home was “not fit for human habitation.”

Pedrick made an initial appearance in Rock County Court on Friday afternoon and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Tuesday, Sept. 3, court records show.
