Your Views: Here are ideas to control those annoying earwigs
In answer to “New User” from Web Views on Friday (Page 4A), I am not on the Web but read the newspaper. I have no suggestion for companion plants to ward off earwigs, but an alternative is to use an empty container (cottage cheese, etc.) and put 2 tablespoons of cooking oil (any will work) plus a few drops of soy sauce in the container. Poke holes with a nail in the cover. The more, the better. Earwigs will go in and can’t get out. Change every couple of days.
Also, roll your newspapers and soak them in a bucket of water. Remove the rolls of paper, and place them in areas of earwigs at night. In the morning, collect the rolls and place them back in the bucket (a 5-gallon bucket works well) of water. They should be filled with earwigs. The next night, start with new rolls. Always discard the used rolls after the earwigs are drowned.
