JANESVILLE -- Authorities continued digging today on Janesville's northeast side for the body of Georgia Jean Weckler, the 8-year-old Fort Atkinson girl that vanished in 1947.

A tipster led Janesville police and Rock County Sheriff's deputies to a vacant lot at the corner of Wright and Rotamer roads, saying that they could find Weckler's body in a shallow grave.

But this isn't the first time in recent memory that authorities say they had a credible tip that Weckler was buried nearby.
In 1996, Jefferson County Sheriff's detectives investigated a claim by a Delavan man that Weckler had been buried nearly 50 years earlier alongside the foundation of a Delavan business.

Ed Lindloff, a former town of Delavan chairman and Delavan City Council member contacted the weekly newspaper to tell a story that had been gnawing at him for decades.

Lindloff, who died May 4, 2012, at the age of 92, went to his grave convinced that he knows where Weckler's body is buried.
