MUKWONAGO--Empire Level Manufacturing Corp., a Mukwonago-based maker of measuring tools for over 90 years, is getting tough about getting Chinese manufacturers to stop copying and selling their products, according to a story in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The company says it legally pursues counterfeiting Chinese companies and has gotten thousands of knockoffs off store shelves in the process, despite the difficulty in dealing with a Chinese court system, uncooperative manufacturers, and a lengthy process in tracking them down.

One of its locally-made products, a torpedo level, has been the target of repeated copies, according to the story.

Counterfeiting is a growing problem for many American companies, some of whom have stopped manufacturing in China.
