JANESVILLE—A Clinton man accused of stabbing a Beloit man early Sunday morning told police their dispute began when he decided to pick a fight with the biggest person at a bar, according to court documents.
Chance S. Myers, 39, of 307 Maple Ave. Apt. B, Clinton, made an initial appearance in Rock County Court on Monday afternoon on charges of substantial battery and disorderly conduct with a dangerous weapon.
He is accused of stabbing Jacob Nadowski in the back during a fight on the 100 block of Allen Street around 1:20 a.m. Sunday, according to a criminal complaint filed Monday.
Myers started the fight with Nadowski and stabbed him when Nadowski got Myers into a headlock, authorities said.
The two were later separated and Myers was arrested, according to the complaint.
Myers told police he “thought if he beat up a big guy people would think he was tough,” according to the complaint.
Nadowski was transported to the Beloit Memorial Hospital emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries.
Myers is next due in court for a preliminary hearing July 30.
