Leah Elsen, Spacesaver's vice president of human resources, would not say how many of the company's 535 workers had been laid off.
The cuts, she said, were permanent for some office workers. They are temporary for other laborers, she said. Still other workers have been transferred to other department or shifts.
Elsen said Spacesaver is optimistic it will be able to call back the laid-off workers, but she wouldn't provide a timeline.
Spacesaver manufactures high-density mobile storage systems for government, public safety, healthcare and other business operations.
Last year, the company completed a $7.5 million plant expansion. Spacesaver is a division of KI Corp. based in Green Bay.
Elsen said the economy has delayed orders for Spacesaver products and forced the layoffs.
