The visiting Impact, averaging 14 runs per game, ripped a pitching-depleted Janesville American Legion for 16 hits, including a pair of two-run homers, en route to a 15-5 victory in a game halted by the 10-run rule after five innings.

The loss left Janesville with a split after starting the night with a 6-5 victory over Rockton, Ill. Janesville is 8-4 overall. Madison is 9-1.

"We had a lot of base runners, and they had some errors, but they just hit the ball all over the place," Legion coach Bob Schenck of the Impact. "It didn't matter what pitch. We made some real nice changeup pitches, curveball pitches, they just dropped the head of the bat and drilled it. That's a very good hitting team."

Meanwhile, the Impact starter Alan Hopp held Janesville to three hits, but walked six and tossed three wild pitches.

It didn't help that Janesville pitching was threadbare. Janesville used three pitchers to defeat Rockton in the opener was coming off a four-game weekend tournament.

"We won our tournament last weekend, and we were down to two pitchers who could throw, and one of them (Dylan Hoskins) had not pitched in a year," Schenck said. "That happens in the summer and now we'll start our rotation over."

Brandy Brandt started for the Legion and lasted 3 1/3 innings. Brandt allowed six runs, including a two-run homer in the first inning, as Madison rolled to a 4-0 lead.

Janesville cut the gap to 4-2 in the second, scoring both runs without the benefit of a hit.

In the fourth, the roof collapsed on Janesville as Madison sent 12 men to the plate and scored eight runs for a 12-2 lead.

Hoskins replaced Brandt with one out in the fourth and got Janesville out of the mess with a double play.

The Legion bounced back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth on three hits and an a throwing error which scored a run. Charlie Meyer opened the inning with a double and Brandon Luebke delivered an RBI single.

Madison added three runs on two hits and a pair of walks off Hoskins, who was suffering from strep throat.

The Legion loaded the bases with three walks off Hopp with one out in the fifth, but reliever Chaz Schuster coaxed a 1-2-3 double play to end the game.

"The good news is we are right back at it again (tonight)," Schenck said. "You have to have a short memory."
