JANESVILLE—A Janesville man accused of robbing two stores is in custody at the Rock County Jail.

Skyler D. Smith, 29, of 1027 Jerome Ave., was charged Thursday with strong-arm robbery in connection with an incident July 8 in Janesville, a news release from the Janesville Police Department said. Smith also confessed to a robbery that took place in Fort Atkinson on July 12, the news release said.

Smith is accused of entering the Francis Oil Company gas station at 1002 S. Jackson St., Janesville at 9:56 p.m. July 8 and demanding money from the clerk, according to the criminal complaint.

Smith banged his fists on the counter and told the clerk that she should give him all the money and she would not be hurt, according to the criminal complaint. Smith told police he had a heroin problem that had “been a problem that has gone on for many years,” according to the criminal complaint.
