1. What's for dinner? Beef, or more specifically a 12-ounce rib-eye steak dinner, a 6-ounce rib-eye steak dinner or a kid's meal that includes an all-beef hot dog.

Baked potatoes, sweet corn, dinner rolls and drinks are included with the meal price. Local 4-H clubs will be selling desserts.

2. No hardware needed. Sorg's Quality Meat & Sausage of Darien orders quality beef loins and cuts rib-eyes to the specification of the Rock County Beef Producers, said Austin Arndt, president of the producers group.

As a result, diners feast on steak so tender it can be cut with a plastic knife, he said.

3. Each steak is cooked to order. Yes, you can have your steak so rare a vet could bring it back to life.

At the other end of the grilling spectrum, you could have a steak so well done it makes the more sensitive members of the beef producers group cry. Not that anyone will judge you for the your grilling preferences.

Salt, pepper, steak sauce and other fixings will be available. Ketchup will be available for hot dogs.

4. Hope you're hungry. The beef producers ordered 3,000 12-ounce steaks, 2,000 6-ounce steaks and 300 hot dogs, Arndt said.

Steaks are cooked on two massive grills, and it takes two pallets of charcoal to get through all those steaks.

5. Who, what, where, when and why. The dinner runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Rock County 4-H Fairgrounds at the corner of Craig and Randall avenues, Janesville.

Cost is $14 for a 12-ounce rib-eye, $10 for the 6-ounce rib-eye and $5 for the kid's meal. Uncooked steaks also will be available for sale.

Proceeds support youth activities, scholarships and beef promotion.
