Ferrell, who will play for Michigan State this fall, fired a closing-round par 72 to go with a first-round 5-under 67 on Tuesday for a 139 total to win the girls 16-18 division and overall title as a wire-to-wire leader.

With the victory, Ferrell will represent the state again at the National PGA Championship on Aug. 2-5 at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Indiana.

Meanwhile, Ferrell’s sister, Brooke, who will be a sophomore this fall at Edgerton High, shot a 154 to tie for third place in the 13-15 girls division and tie for 11th place overall with Janesville’s C.J. Enriquez.

Eau Claire’s David Walter fired a second-round 65 to finish at 10-under-par 134 to win the boys tournament and qualify for nationals. Onalaska’s Ben Skogen shot a 6-under-par 66 for second-lowest boys round of the day in winning 13-15 division with a 140 total.

Allyssa Ferrell went into the final round with a five-shot lead, but Oregon’s McKenzie Parks turned up the heat on the final nine holes. Parks finished with a 2-under 69 for a 141 total to win the girls 13-15 division and finish second overall.

“It wasn’t over until the last hole,” Ferrell said. “The hardest part was that McKenzie was playing so well, and I had stay focused on my game.”

Ferrell held her ground by carding pars on the last four holes to reach her goal of making a return trip to nationals.

Ferrell made the cut at the TPC at River’s Bend in Ohio last year, but she is expecting to make an improvement next month in Indiana.

“I’m very fortunate to be going back,” Ferrell said. “Last year, I was like a wide-eyed deer in the headlights. It will be different this time.’’
