BELOIT--Police are investigating an apparent homicide that occurred early Monday in the 2200 block of Sunshine Lane.

Peter Hemmy, 30, of Beloit, came to the Beloit Police Department at 1:30 a.m. Monday and told officers his father was dead at their home, police said in a news release.

Hemmy implicated himself in the death at the home in the 2200 block of Sunshine Lane, police said.

Officers found Bruce Hemmy, 58, in the residence. The Rock County Coroner's Office pronounced Bruce Hemmy dead at the scene.

Peter Hemmy has been arrested on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide, police said.

Capt. William Tyler said there is no ongoing danger to the community, adding that preliminary indications indicate the incident was a domestic homicide.

Some speculation has been that the death was caused by gunshot, but that is not the case, although police are not ready to report the cause or manner of death, according to an email from police Capt. Dan Risse.

The incident is Beloit's eighth homicide since April.
