Town of Beloit supervisor No. 1 race draws two

— Voters will decide next week between two men seeking to be town supervisor No. 1.

Incumbent Tim Guenther is seeking the town chairman job.

The candidates are Andrew Davis, 862 E. McKearn Lane, Beloit, and David Townsend, 1823 E. Security Road, Beloit.

David Townsend

Age: 65

Address: 1823 E. Security Road, Beloit.

Job: More than 40 years as a civil engineer, project manager and land surveyor on highway, street construction and bridge replacement projects. Currently works as a civil engineer for the Winnebago County Highway Department. Former capital projects engineering director for the city of Scottsdale, Ariz., and former Beloit city engineer.

Education: Graduate of Beloit Turner High School in 1966, Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from UW-Platteville in 1972. Licensed professional engineer and registered land surveyor.

Community service: Town of Beloit planning commission from 2007 to present, including serving as chairman since 2011.

Elected posts: Beloit Turner School Board from 1988 to 1993; Beloit Town Board from 2007 to 2011, including serving as chairman from December 2010 to April 2011.

Major campaign issue: “The major issue facing the town of Beloit will be whether to move forward with incorporating that part of the town located east of Afton Road. Before making that decision, a full understanding (is needed) of what the impacts of incorporation will be on the remaining town properties located west of Afton Road that are not included in the incorporation.”
