How do you get to sing and dance on stage and get paid for it?

Parker High School graduate Callie Johnson Schouten has made that magic happen with a lot of hard work, and she'll be performing close to her hometown next week.

Johnson Schouten is on the national tour of "Elvis Lives!" The show is in Rockford, Ill., on Feb. 7 and Milwaukee on Feb. 8.

Johnson Schouten has performed in national tours, regional theater, cruise lines and the Armory in Janesville.

The actress/dancer/singer has not only made a career on the stage, but she has given back, giving dance and theater workshops in Janesville.

Johnson Schouten last fall choreographed "Hair" at The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The show won Broadwayworld.com's award for best show by a local group. She said in an email that she's thrilled to have been nominated in the Janesville Area Creativity Awards for the Roots Award, for locals who have left town to make a life in the arts.
