— The Milton Junction Pub Raptors slipped past host Laurel Tavern on one hit for a 1-0 victory in Rock River South baseball Sunday.

Tom Scalissi had the Raptors’ only hit—a fourth-inning single to drive home Josh Shere with the game’s only run.

Joe Shere drew a walk to open the inning. Josh Shere hit into a force play, and Eric Steinke reached on error. With Raptors on first and third, Scalissi laced his hit between shortstop and third base to drive in Josh Shere.

Laurel Tavern gotseven hits off Raptors’ starter Joe Shere, but none of the runners made it past second base.

“None of their balls were hit hard,” Raptors coach Doug Welch said. “They were infield singles and bloopers.”

Aided with good defense, including a 3-6 double play between Josh Shere and Zach Bayreuther to end the game, Raptors starter Joe Shere stayed in control for the victory. Shere had five strikeouts and walked one.

The victory lifted the Raptors to 5-3 in the league.

“If we lost this game, we would have been in big trouble,” Welch said. “The victory keeps us tied for third place in the league race.’’
