UW-Whitewater softball team eliminated

— The softball season came to an end Sunday night for UW-Whitewater.

Central College (Iowa) scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning en route to a 5-2 win over the Warhawks in an elimination game of the NCAA Division III regional. Central (38-8) must beat top-ranked Linfield (Ore.) twice today to win the regional title.

Whitewater finished the season 28-12,

Senior third baseman Lauren Rankins put Whitewater up 1-0 in the fourth with a solo home run, and made it 2-0 with another solo home run in the fifth.

Central tied the game on a two-out double by Rachael Everingham in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Whitewater loaded the bases with no outs, but Central pitcher Kiley Lythberg got out of the jam with a pop up, strike out, and flyout.

Whitewater defeated Washington (Mo.), 1-0, in an elimination game Sunday morning.
