The Janesville Police Department is operating with fewer officers than experts advise.

Police Chief David Moore tells WCLO's Dan Conry Show optimally the department 111 officers. Moore compliments the men and women of the department for making it work well with 104. Moore says the latest budgetary blow is the school district's decision to cut funding for three liaison officers. The chief does not want to see officer numbers reduced any further, but that is possible.

Luckily, Moore says, many officers volunteer for special projects, even though it's a lot of extra hours without extra pay.
