Coppage, Leipold honored

UW-Whitewater junior running back Levell Coppage and head coach Lance Leipold have earned 2010 D3football.com All-America team honors.

Coppage was named Offensive Player of the Year. Leipold was named Coach of the Year.

Three of the Warhawks’ offensive linemen also earned postseason honors.

Guard Matt Weber was a repeat selection for the first team.

Tackle Robbie Ustruck joins Weber on the first team.

Center mark Gawronski was a second-team honoree.

Two defensive standouts on the Warhawks, tackle Wesley Hicks and linebacker Lane Olson, earned third-team and honorable mention honors, respectively.

The Warhawks went 15-0 for the second straight season, earned the NCAA Division III national championship Saturday with a 31-21 victory over Mount Union (Ohio).

Coppage rushed for 2,107 yards and scored 25 touchdowns in his junior season. He broke the NCAA Division III championship game record with 299 yards rushing against Mount Union.

Coppage has been a first-team All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection all three seasons and holds the conference record with 81 touchdowns.

Leipold has directed three Warhawk squads to national championships, and he was the WIAC Coach of the Year the past two years.
