— A Janesville police dog sniffed all the lockers at Franklin Middle School on Tuesday. No drugs were found.

The dog, which is trained to react to marijuana, cocaine, heroin or methamphetamine, "hit" on 10 lockers, the same number of hits when a similar search was conducted at Edison Middle School on Oct. 1.

No drugs were found at Edison, either.

The search took 42 minutes, said district spokeswoman Sheryl Miller.

Classes went on as usual, but no one was allowed in the halls, a procedure the district calls a "soft lockdown."

The search was the second this fall. It is a regular part of the district's safety plan, Miller said.

The other middle school, Marshall, and the two high schools also are subject to dog-assisted searches.
