— An Evansville man died early Sunday morning when he crashed his motorcycle while riding on County B about a mile west of the village of Footville.

Dale Creighton, 28, Evansville, was pronounced dead at 10:03 a.m. Sunday by Rock County Deputy Coroner Danielle Darr, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Creighton was instantly killed in the crash, according to the news release. However, the crash scene was not visible from the road, and Creighton might have been dead for 9 hours before he was discovered by the owner of the land, the release states.

Investigators determined that Creighton was driving south on County B near Lone Rock Road in Center Township when he drifted off the right side of the road. He travelled down the embankment and some 600 feet into a picked cornfield. The motorcycle crashed through a barbed wire fence and over some small trees before hitting a large tree and coming to rest, the release states.

Speed, alcohol and the lack of a helmet might have contributed to the crash, the release states. First responders from Footville Fire and EMS assisted the sheriff’s department and the coronor’s office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
