— Wisconsin National Guard troops serving in Iraq have completed the task of transferring over 20,000 detainees from Camp Bucca to other facilities in the country.

Wisconsin National Guard spokesman, Lt. Col. Tim Donovan, says the job was undertaken during July and August when temperatures can soar to near 140 degrees in southern Iraq.

The troops from Janesville's Company A, 132nd Brigade Support Battalion, were involved in the logistics of the move making sure the needs of the detainees were met. They are now part of the effort to disassemble the camp so the army can use the space for something else, if need be.

Before moving the detainees, camp Bucca was the largest detention facility in the world.
