Peter Severson runs for Rock County clerk of courts
JANESVILLE--Peter Severson of Janesville has declared his candidacy for Rock County clerk of courts.
Severson, 44, is running as a Democrat.
Jacki Gackstatter, a clerk of courts employee, also is running as a Democrat.
Severson is a former member of the Janesville School Board. He has been a child protection worker for Rock County. For the past nine years, he has worked for the Wisconsin Supreme Court's Consolidated Courts Automation Program.
Working for the state “has provided me with an incredible depth of knowledge of our court system. In this role, I have worked with all 72 clerks of court around Wisconsin, and I have visited more than 40 county court offices around the state,” Severson said in a statement.
“I have also been involved with a number of system implementations at Rock County and am familiar with the county's process and staff,” Severson added.
Severson said he has experience with new technologies that will change and improve clerk of courts operations and would run the office with an emphasis on customer service.
Severson said he is taking a leave of absence from his state job to run for office. State rules don't allow campaigning while working for the state.
The deadline to file nomination papers is Monday.
The primary will be Aug. 12. The general election is Nov. 4.
