Doris L. Balas, age 90, of Janesville died on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at her home. She was born on September 7, 1923, in Cold Spring, WI, the daughter of the late Edward and Laurabell (Mepham) Freeman. Doris graduated from Delavan High School and later married John F. Balas on April 19, 1947 in Janesville. He predeceased her on December 31, 1992. In her younger years, Doris worked at Gilman Manufacturing before her four children were born. She also worked for the Lovejoy and Yeoman families for many years. Doris and her husband enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and dancing together. Doris was a member of the VFW Kienow Hilt Post 1621 Auxiliary and the Janesville Senior Center.

She is survived by her four children: Roger Balas, Kathleen (James) Hager, Mary (Patrick) Shaw and Sandra Balas, all of Janesville; five grandchildren whom she adored: John Hager, Jason (Sherri) Hager, Samantha Hager, Matthew (Shannon) Shaw and Lindsay (Joseph) Pickart; four great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law: Jeannie Freeman of Edgerton. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandson: Justin Hager; four sisters and one brother.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Whitcomb - Lynch Funeral Home. Private interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery next to her husband.
